Do not write code that will never be hit.

It affects code readability and can lead to wrong assumptions.

Bad code

    IF Type <\> Type::FIELD THEN BEGIN
    ...
    ERROR(...);
    RecRef.CLOSE;
    END;  
      
    

Good code

    IF Type <\> Type::FIELD THEN BEGIN
    ...
    RecRef.CLOSE;
    ERROR(...);
    END;
